Biography
Mrs. Buys earned a Master of Science in Education with a concentration in mathematics from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Calvin University. Following her time at Calvin, she studied and conducted research at the University of Illinois at Chicago, developing and analyzing formative math assessments for Chicago Public Schools. At Northwestern, her research thesis investigated the use of computational estimation in classroom instruction. She then spent 14 years teaching high school mathematics at Brookline High School in Massachusetts. During this time, she developed curriculum for and taught a wide variety of courses and levels ranging from algebra to AP statistics.
Kari and her husband, Todd are both originally from Michigan. They have two young sons, Micah and Ethan, and reside in Boca Raton.
